Grain Handling Facility

ARP have provided engineering services to a number of clients who require detailed engineering design for their grain, seed and crop handling facilities. ARP have extensive experience designing these types of facilities which are typically lighter duty than mining infrastructure. We pay attention to this key difference and provide cost effective and easy to construct designs which are suitably durable for many years of low maintenance usage. One of these projects is summarised below involving the design of garner bins, foundations and steel frame towers for grain elevators.
Project Overview+

Our client, a grain handling equipment manufacturer located in Victoria, commissioned ARP to provide structural engineering for the development of the new facility.

The Engineering and Design+

The facility assets included a weigh bin, pipe conveyor supports, walkways and foundations. The engineering required the weigh bin structure to be engineered to provide low deflections to ensure the accuracy of the load cells. ARP achieved this with a stiff portalised structure which enables a truck to locate under the bin during loading. The foundations were then designed to support the steel frame with the requirement for the restriction of settlement. The restriction on deflection and settlement ensures equipment accuracy and minimisation of errors which is critical in the loading calculations for tonnage transfer. Our design was carried in steel and concrete utilising thin gauge items where possible to reduce weight and minimise cost.

Construction and Commissioning+

Our client has successfully constructed the plant without incident, and the facility is now in operation, providing a scaled-up grain handling plant with the associated efficiencies and economic benefits for their business.
